I am so excited to show you this adorable House Hot Pad DIY.  I have made the house quilt block for some quilts and so I decided to try it as a hot pad.

What you will need…

  • one 9 x 6 inch for the house
  • two 3.5 x 4 inch for the house
  • one 3 x 4 inch for the door
  • two 5 x 5 squares white
  • two 2.5 x 13 inch white
  • two 2.5 x 10 inch white
  • 2.5 x 54 inch for the binding

backing fabric

insulated batting such as Insul-Brite

Sew the door to the two sides of the house.  Press seams.

Next, add the top of the house.

Take one of the white 5 inch squares, right sides together and pin to the top corner of the house.  Draw a diagonal line on the square.

Sew on the line and then cut 1/4 inch from the stitching.

Open and press the seam.

Now for the next side, do the same as you did on the first corner.

Open and press the seam.

Now, take the 2.5 inch strips with right sides together sew on the top, bottom and sides.  I stitched the sides first with the 2.5 x 10 inch white pieces and then I did the top and bottom with the other white strips.  Open and press.  Add personalization if desired.

Layer the backing fabric, put the insulated batting and then the top.  Pin together.  Then sew in any fashion to attach the three layers.  Cut the corners to make them rounded.

For the binding… right sides together, sew 1/4 stitch around, be careful to make small pleats on the corners.  When you have gone all the way around, then turn to the right side, turn under binding and sew close to edge.

And here’s the cutest house hot pad for your holiday dishes.  I hope this house hot pad diy was easy to follow.  When you make one, you will want to make more.
